Dear Committee,

It is with heavy heart that I write of two sad events.

Today, Wednesday June 19 2013 our dear friend, constant companion and enthusiastic supporter Lucille Pattison passed away.  From her first campaign for County Legislature in 1973 to the conclusion of her third full term as our County Executive in 1991, Lucille provided Dutchess County, its people and the Democratic Party strong and effective leadership during a difficult period of growth and change.

Both as a legislator and as county executive Lucille earned the respect from public officials on both sides of the political aisle.  From 1976 to her election as county executive in 1978 she served as majority leader of the county legislature.  On November 8, 1978 Lucille was elected the first Democratic county executive in Dutchess County, the first woman Democratic county executive in the United States, and the first Democrat elected to any county-wide office in Dutchess County history.

Lucille was a role model for the women of Dutchess County and active in the League of Women Voters and the Dutchess Democratic Women’s Caucus.

After retiring from elective office, Lucille continued to work tirelessly on behalf of the people of Dutchess County and the Democratic Party.

Our love and condolences go out to her husband Ross and all her family. We shall miss her.

Yesterday one of our committee members also passed from us, Glenn Goldstein. Full of life, love, and with a smile on his face and in his heart, he left us way too soon.

Our love goes out to his wife and best friend Susan Goodman Goldstein, his family, and to the community of Red Hook of which Glenn was colorfully woven into its fabric.

We love you Glenn and Susan.

Glenn’s funeral will be held on Friday, June 21 at 12 noon at the Woodstock Jewish Congregation. Burial will follow at Montrepose Cemetery. The family will be accepting visitors throughout Shiva which will begin on Saturday night and be held at the Goodman Goldstein home. The Shiva schedule and information will be forthcoming.

We have no information yet on Lucille’s funeral.

I am so sorry for all this sad news.

Love,

Elisa
