Here’s some footage from Democratic gubernatorial frontrunner Andrew Cuomo’s endorsement yesterday of state Senate candidate Mike Kaplowitz during which the Westchester County legislator commiserates over having to run against a controversial, outspoken GOP opponent.

“Mr. Future Governor, I too am running against — we call him the Carl Paladino of the Hudson Valley,” Kaplowitz said.

“A man who does not share our vision. Does not share our values. And a man that in your case would not make a good governor, in my case, would not make a good New York state senator.”

The man in question is GOP Assemblyman Greg Ball. The seat in question is the 40th SD, which is being vacated by GOP Sen. Vincent Leibell.

When he takes the stage, Cuomo says he needs “a state Senate that I can work with…a state Senate to bring reform to Albany, and integrity to Albany, and competence to Albany.” He also endorsed incumbent Democratic Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer, who is being challenged by Republican Bob Choen.

With the balance of power in the Senate up for grabs, Cuomo is really rolling the dice on this one.

If the Republicans take back the majority, they might not be so keen to work with him in a bipartisan fashion if he keeps this up, although so far, his support has come only in the form of endorsements – not TV ads and not campaign cash.
