Update: Marco Caviglia has been deemed “Well Qualified” by the Dutchess County Bar Assocation. This is the highest designation a judicial candidate can receive!

With the opening of both positions of County Court Judge in Dutchess, this is our opportunity to infuse new blood into our judiciary system this November 2nd. County Court judges preside over all indicted felonies in the county, including pretrial hearings and trials. In the case of a conviction, the judge also pronounces the sentence. The term of office is 10 years.

Marco Caviglia has practiced criminal law for 30 years, and most people know him as an accomplished criminal trial attorney, having continuously prosecuted or defended thousands of cases in the Dutchess County criminal court system. His skill and knowledge is reflected in his past appointments as lead counsel in death penalty cases, selected pursuant to 35-b state certification.

His legal scholarship surfaced early in the national publication of his then groundbreaking article on liabilities in the martial arts and he has been party to numerous reported cases.

Mr. Caviglia is well known for his decisiveness, thoroughness, and fairness, all critical qualities of a judicial temperament.
